The day my life changed

Wednesday, August 25th is one of those days I will never forget. It is the day that I received some of the most shocking news of my entire life ~ at the age of 29, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It is 4 days later and I am still in shock when I say the words.

Since Wednesday, a lot has happened. I am lucky enough to have my mom here with me from Ohio. She was able to be on a flight the very next day, so that she could be at my appointment on Friday, August 27th with me to talk with the surgeon, Dr. Damore.

Dr. Damore is great. He spent over an hour with me, my mom, my aunt and my cousin ~ answering all of the questions we could come up with in regards to what is about to happen; what my options are; what to expect; etc. He didn't rush us or make us feel like we were taking up too much of his time.  He is recommending I have an MRI early this upcoming week to see if there are any other cancer cells in my breast. If there are, the Lumpectomy will not be an option for me; however, no additional cancer cells are found in the breast, that particular door would still be open.
I should start to have more answers this upcoming week ~ I will be having the MRI, meeting with an Oncologist and a Plastic Surgeon.  Stay tuned for additional updates.

I would also like to thank EVERYONE for your thoughts, prayers and well-wishes. The outpouring of love from all my family and friends has just been amazing. I appreciate everyone so much and will be sure to keep everyone posted with what is going on. I will try to update my blog a few times a week with my appointments and answers that I am receiving from the various doctors.  As soon as I know when surgery is going to be scheduled, I will let everyone know about that as well.

Love always,
